dsc08333.jpg

Walk-around of upper portion of F-1 engine.

Picture 1 of 9.

Note the inverted "T"-shaped turbine exhaust manifold. This is indicative of an early F-1, with later engines having an inverted "Y"-shaped turbine exhaust manifold (e.g., like the F-1s on S-IC-15 at the Michoud Assembly Facility). Alan Lawrie tells me that the new-style turbine exhaust manifold was implemented starting with F-3011 and that there were only 10 engines (excluding development engines) with the "T" shape.
